Odds of getting into these Business Schools?

Hi all,

I'm 21 years old and about to enter my senior year at the University of Delaware. I'm a business management major with a 3.23 GPA and just made the Dean's List for the past 3 semesters. I also work at my school's admissions office and am in a fraternity. I have about 8 months of credible work experience at a nursing home, but my gmat score is pretty low (460). I plan on applying for an MBA Program in Healthcare at the following schools:

Baruch, Fordham, Temple, Uconn, Hofstra, Stony Brook, Adelphi, Qunnipiac, Sacred Heart, Molloy.

Just from looking at my profile, do I stand a decent shot at some of these programs?

Hey,
Well a few thoughts here:
1. You are a bit young to attempt an MBA. You might want to wait a bit
2. Geting a higher GMAT is a must. A 460 is really really low. Take it again after having done a course. You can do better. Retake!

Hey there - definitely consider both of Jon's points. Going into your MBA right after your undergrad really doesn't add much to your credentials and it's not the best experience for you either. Even schools that target undergrads (e.g. HBS 2+2) want you to get some real world experience first and there's a reason for that!

As for your GMAT - DEFINITELY take it again. a 460 is going to really put a damper in your MBA plans no matter when you try to do it!

Sorry, I agree with the others. Why do you want to go to business school right now? Your plan doesn't sound like a very sound one. I would recommend you get a few more years of experience and drastically improve your GMAT. Then you should consider if business school is right for you. Hopefully you will also have some better school options at that point.

The GMAT score is definitely something that can be greatly improved on with some practice. Definitely retake. There's no rush; business school is great of people at any stage of their career.

From a score of 460, you have a very high probability of boosting your score significantly. Mastering some of the "easy" questions would improve your scores and allow you to be considered to more schools.

Enjoy building up your experiences and preparing for a retake in the next few years. This would be well worth the investment before going for your MBA.

Since it has been a couple years since you posted, I would be interested first if you are even following these boards anymore..... if you are, what are you up to now? Have you retaken the GMAT? What work experience do you have? Keep us updated and best of luck!
