Should I just plug in the highest and lowest values for x

The easiest and most efficient way is to pick number x, such as 1/2. You'll get
1/x = 2
root(x) = 1/1.414
x = 1/2
x^2 = 1/4
X^3 = 1/8
Now you can see which is the medain. This approach takes about 1.5 min.
