Can any one solve the below problem ;

1.) Working Together ,jose and jane can complete an assigned task in 20 days .However , if jose worked alone and completed the half the work abd then jane takes over the task and completes the second half of ,the task will be completed in 45 days .How long jose take to complete the task if worked alone ? Assume that Jane is more efficient than jose.

a.) 25 b.) 30 c.) 60 d.) 65 e) 36
Ans: c
2.) on a saturday night , each of the room at a certain motel for either $40 or $60.If 10 of the rooms that were rented for $ 60 had instead been rented for $ 40 , then the total rent the motel charged for that night would have been reduced by 25 % .What was the total rent the motel actually charged for the night?

a.) $600 b.) $800 c.) $1000 d.) $1600 e.) $2400.
Ans: b
3.) Harry started a 6-mile hike with a full 10-cup canteen of water and finished the hike in 2 hr with 1cup of water remaining in the canteen . If the canteen leaked at the rate of 1 cup per hr and harry drank 3 cups of water during the last mile, how many cups did he drink per mile during the first 5miles of the hike ?

a.) 4/5 b) 5/6 c) 1 d) 6/5 e) 5/4.
ans: a
You can eliminate A,B and E just by looking at the options.

Both together take 20 days, so assuming equal rates for both they would take 40 days each.

But we're asked rate of slower, so it should be >40.

We are left with 60 and 65.

Lets try 60.

We know 1/A + 1/B = 1/20 (They complete 1/20th of the work in 1 day, we assume A's rate is 60 days)

So, 1/60 + 1/B = 1/20

1/B = 1/30 (or) B takes 30 days.

This perfectly matches the statement that it takes 45 days when A completes half the work and B completes the other half.

So A would work for 30 days and B 15 days. Total = 45. C

Difference in rate would be 10(60) - 10(40) = 200.

Now $200 is mentioned as 25% (1/4) reduction in revenue, hence revenue should be 4(200) = $800 B

6 miles takes 120 mins
So, each mile takes 20 mins -> 5 miles 100 mins.

One cups remains - So 9 used

In 2 hours 2 cups would be lost due to leak (7 remaining)

Last mile he drinks 3 cups -> First 5 miles 4 cups.

We are asked cups/mile, so 4/5 A
