GMAT Prep Round 2

by drdentz » Sun Aug 01, 2010 6:56 pm
Hi All

I am in the process of retaking my GMAT again for the 2nd time. (1st was on June 5th 2010). While studying the first time around, I took the Kaplan course which had the online and classroom course. (9 weeks from March to May 09).

Then, I took about 3 weeks off from work to study for the exam for the final days and ended up with the 540 :/. I was doing fairly better on the practice tests average closer to 610-620.

The following are the materials that I used the first time around
1. Kaplan course (applied for the higher score guarantee, so I am still able to go through the material)
2. OG 12
3. MGMAT SC and RC.
4. Gmat prep 1&2 (Done twice)

Now that I had a good break and took my mind off the exam for a while, I'm back to give it a crack again.

Can someone give me advice, tips etc for studying the 2nd time around? (I feel that I don't need to study the basics again, but unsure on how to start)

Tips around these topics would be great.
1. studying schedule ( I cant afford to take time off from work again!),
2. # weeks/months to study for the exam and additional course material.
3. Additional course material required? or should I just continue using the ones I already have?

Thanks for all the help in advance!

Hello!
While you don't need to go through everything all over again as you did the first time, it would be good to review all of the material. The Manhattan SC book has a lot of information in it so if you're not strong in that area you may have to go through the book several times. You should also go back over all the questions that you had trouble with, took too long on, guessed on etc... Going back over your problems is more important that doing problems in the first place because you learn more. Have you done all of the Manhattan tests? If not, use those as practice. Save the GMAT Prep tests for last because you need to give yourself some time to forget all the answers. You should also probably buy the OG verbal and math books so you have some real practice problems that you haven't already done. As for the amount of preparation time, once you get a score that is somewhat close to what you want you could schedule the test. However, some people need to schedule the test to motivate themselves so you could also try to schedule the test about a month ahead of time although that may be difficult during the upcoming months because its high season so time slots fill up fast.

Cheers!
