4) geometry problem

by ern5231 » Sat Sep 26, 2009 8:13 am
A rectangular lawn of length L and width W is surrounded by a path of width d. Four corners of the path are quarter circles. What is the proportion of the area of path to that of the total area?

(1) The rectangular lawn has area 18d

(2) Lawns area is 360

I don't know if this is correct. IMO E

area of path = 2(l.d + w.d) + 4.(pi.d^2)/4

1. area : l.w = 18d => no solution to above equation.
2. area : l.w = 360 => unknown d hence solution not possible

1 and 2: 18d = l.w = 360
Now,
d is known, but l+w is unknown => hence not possible with 1 and 2 as well.
