530(Q-45 and V-18). Want 730+. but how?..

by Yugesh » Mon Oct 25, 2010 10:04 am
Hi All,

Today I gave my GMAT exam and got 530 (Q45,V18).
I have gone through each and every problem in GMAT 12th edition review for more than 3 times regarding Quant.
Beat the GMAT forum also helped me in strengthening my Quant skills. Many thanks to beat the gmat forums.
Regarding Verbal.. For SC I studied Manhattan GMAT. But I dint read any book for CR and RC.

I am planning to take GMAT again in March. This time for sure I have to score 730+.
I want to improve my verbal score. Please help me regarding this.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks and Regards,
Yugesh A.

Hi All,

I have gone through other forums and have found valuable information.
I am poor in Verbal especially RC and CR.
For CR many suggested that BIBLE will be sufficient. So I am planning to buy BIBLE.
Next I want materials for RC.
Can anyone help me regarding RC.

Thanks in Advance.

Regards,
Yugesh A.

You may try looking at Veritas Prep materials for RC. But in my opinion, studying materials simply will not help your RC. These materials teach you strategies only for answering questions. It is the active reading that really matters in RC. No books can help you improve in active reading. You need to start reading various articles in sites like economist, sciencedaily etc.. There are a bunch of sites similar to the ones listed.

You dont need an Einstein to figure out where you are lacking-VERBAL.
As you mentioned CR and RC are your weaknesses, just hunt them down. Powerscore CR bible is exhaustive and good. If possible do buy it. If you do your CR well, even RC will take care of itself. There are various methods to successfully solve the RC puzzle(such as drawing maps, reading the passage thoroughly, skimming to the passage and returning again, etc.)You should figure out the way you feel comfortable. Practice is the only way you can do that. LSAT RC are good and so is RC 99 from Aristotle Prep(both of which are freely available).
I would advice you not to ignore your strengths too. Do practice them too.

May be 1000 CR and RC
RC from kaplan and manhattan(make a mix stradegy to attack or tackle)
CR .....Powerscore bible...

and may be foruming and reading articles.

and there are some preparation organization which claim to improve 100.If you can afford it,may be you can give it a try.

thanks
GMAT score is equally counted as your GPA and 78 clicks can change you life.

Hi Yugesh

For RC I would really recommend Aristotle Prep's RC 99.

RC99

It greatly helped me in my prep and I'm sure you'll find this useful.

Hi All,

Today was a disappointing day I gave GMAT and scored a 530.

My GMAT score: 530 Q-45, V-19.

I have read many success stories of people retaking GMAT and realizing their dreams on this particular forum.
I know with diligence and perseverance I would also be able to achieve the magic figure of 700!!
But, for the same I would need some piece of advice and guidance on verbal section, as verbal has always been the area of concern for me.

Please help me.

Looking forward for your reply.

Thanks and regards,

G
