GMAT 690 : 1 month prep : Good enough?

by mitra2483 » Thu Sep 02, 2010 9:29 pm
Hi Friends,
I appeared for GMAT exam last Saturday (28th August'2010) and received my official score today.

Verbal Quantitative Total Analytical Writing
35 / 73% 49 / 86% 690 / 88% 5.0 / 56%

I had given myself 1 month to prepare for the test, but ended up studying mostly on the weekends due to work pressure. I am not very sure how good a score this is and if this stands any chance in good institutes like Great Lakes/ISB in India.

Also for the AWA, is 5.0 score good enough? I thought so but the percentile is just 56% which is causing doubts.

I wanted to list down a few difficulties I faced while taking the exam

1. I spend more time on a few Quant questions and thus had to rush at the end. Luckily the questions towards the end were not so difficult.

2. I was always scoring low in verbals (practice tests), and specially sentence-correction. I think sentence-correction is where I made the most mistakes.

3. There were a couple of Venn Diagram questions which I should have correctly answered. But somehow I messed it up.

690 is a very competitive score. Most schools prefer a balanced score (i.e. 80 percentile in each section). Your score is balanced. Best to move on to other aspects of your application.

- However, if you belong the IT -Male - India category and you're aiming for ISB then you should consider a retake.
