While some propose to combat widespread illegal copying of computer programs by attempting to change people's attitudes toward pirating, others by suggesting reducing software prices to decrease the incentive for pirating, and still others by calling for the prosecution of those who copy software illegally.

IMO it should be A coz
some propose by X ,others by Y and still others by Z
So, there are 3 wys to comabt piracing X,Y,Z should be parallel in strucutre. So A.

IMO E.

My logic: some verb1 X, others verb2 Y, and rest verb3 Z.
Where,
verb1, verb2 and verb3 should be parallel
X, Y and Z should be parallel.

Though I am little skeptic about the last part (verb3 z), E is the best among the lot.

C: for decreasing awkward.
D: 'by calling' is not parallel with propose and suggest.

i have not seen a single official problem in which parallelism has to be compromised in favour of awkwordness.

I'm also in favor of option E.

Some propose, others suggest, others are calling

The bold words are all verbs. 'Are calling' is a verb. When you use helping words like is, are, have, has before the '-ing' and '-ed' words, only then they become verbs.

Pg 2, under the heading Gerund Phrases.

Also if you add an article (A, an, the) before the '-ing' form, it becomes a noun.

Source: Wren and Martin. In fact if you have Wren and Martin, they have a pretty good explanation of gerunds, participles and infinitives.

Received a PM asking me to respond. Don't see a source. Please cite the source (author) of the problem so I can respond!

Note to those studying this: if I were you, I would NOT read / study problems that do not have the source cited. There are several very important reasons for this:

1) If you don't know the source, then you don't know whether you are compromising your future practice tests. What if the question is from the practice test you're about to take and now you see a question that you've already seen before? When that happens, it can blow the validity of your whole test! (Not if it happens just once, of course, but what if it happens multiple times?)

2) If you're taking a practice test and do see a question you've seen before, you'll probably answer it more quickly. This will give you a false sense of timing security because you now have a little more time... but that situation will NEVER be replicated on the real test.

3) The source might be bad. Do you want to study from a bad source? I don't!

This question i sno more in later editions , so this could be the reason tt question is not good .

Option E will be better with verb CALL, not ARE CALLING ?

But C is certainly wrong , in my opinion, because of incorrecat usage of "the reduction of software prices for decreasing " .

"Suggest reducing software prices to decrease the incentive for pirating " is better because you are communicating intention here so infinitve is the best .
