When a colon serves to introduce a list, the list that follows the colon must be COMPLETE.
In contrast, forms of to include serve to introduce a PARTIAL LIST.
Thus, it is contradictory to employ a COLON (which serves to introduce a COMPLETE list) along with a form of to include (which serves to introduce a PARTIAL list).
Eliminate A and C.
D: writing, which includes
E: writing that includes
Here, the implication is that the WRITING includes historical texts.
Not the intended meaning.
Non-underlined portion: Suniti Namjoshi INCORPORATES many types of literature into her writing.
In other words, the author herself INCLUDES these types of literature when she writes.
Eliminate D and E.
The correct answer is B.

Dear Mitch,
can we also rule out ACDE on grounds of redundancy ?
"incorporates" and "including" means the same hence a,c,d,e are having the redundancy problem.
so i am left with option B .
D and E also have idiom issues -
D.writing, which includes historical texts, legends, and even nursery rhymes both from Indian as well as - correct idiom both X and Y.
E.writing that includes historical texts, legends, and even nursery rhymes both from Indian and- idiom issues here as well ....

Yes, the words are very close in meaning.abhasjha wrote:Dear Mitch,

to incorporate means to include X as part of Y.
It seems redundant to use both words with regard to the same author and her works.
Yes, another reason to eliminate D and E is a lack parallelism.D and E also have idiom issues -
D.writing, which includes historical texts, legends, and even nursery rhymes both from Indian as well as - correct idiom both X and Y.
E.writing that includes historical texts, legends, and even nursery rhymes both from Indian and- idiom issues here as well ....
D: both FROM...as well as EUROPEAN
E: both FROM...and EUROPEAN
In each case, from (preposition) and European (adjective) are not parallel forms.
Another error in C: these include
Here, these lacks a clear antecedent.
Generally, these + VERB is not a viable construction on the GMAT.
