Q46 on GMATPrep 1?

Hi everyone,

I just took GMATPrep 1 and got 46 on Quant. I took GMATPrep 1 back in early May (May 5th?). Not sure what my score was back then but I did complete the section. Today I took the test again because I am starting to prepare for GMAT again and I scored a 46. I was surprised because when I was on Question 31, I had 4 minutes left. I made some quick but educated guesses from 31-36, and missed 37.

I was wondering if GMATPrep's Quant is easier than the real GMAT? I think I spent too much time in the beginning (I got 1-7 correct). I have read about the the big myth about first 8 question and that GMAC has fixed that. Maybe getting first few questions correct is still the case on GMATPrep?

Not that I am complaining I did well, but I wasn't expecting as high. Should I be happy? I am 100% certain that I did not remember the answers to the questions I was guessing on (31-36).

I think a Q46 is a great quant score. If you do well in verbal you should do well on the real test. Some people have said the GMATPrep is harder while some say it's easier or the same. It depends on who you ask. I know someone personally who did did much better on the real test (60 points higher).

GMAC never actually "fixed" the first 8 questions being worth too much; what it fixed was the public's misunderstanding of how the scoring algorithm works.

If you got a 46 and had to guess on a bunch at the end, and never even got to #37, then you would have been close to a 50 with better time management - one thing that came out of the recent GMAT conference is that the better you're doing, the more you're punished for wrong answers at the end of the test (and even more so for questions you leave blank).

Yes it was GMATPrep from MBA.com.

Well I have spent some time studying for the GMAT, so I knew stuff for sure. But I was not sure that I was up that level as yet.

As for the last few questions, from 31-36, I only got 1 question wrong - some quick elimination (and thoughtful guessing) and some luck for sure!

I'm going to practice more and learn the content more. I barely knew much Geometry - really need to work on that!

I also wrote the Kaplan Diagnostic 2-3 days ago and got 570 (Q38 V31). I did rush on Verbal and finished 23 mins early (I didn't read the passages very well and got 7/13 questions WRONG). I was more concerned with Math, thats why I rushed through Verbal.

Is Q38 good on Kaplan Diagnostic? I heard its not an adaptive test and it doesn't get harder as you.

If you got only one wrong out of the last 6 (31-36) with only one question left blank, then 46 is not that surprising. How many did you get wrong in total?

Bottom line: the software does not know which ones you guess, what matters is wether it is right or wrong.

I got 14 wrong in total which I thought was a lot. I got quite a few correct in the beginning, which could have pumped by score.
