In 1988, average global temperature increased to the highest recorded in the 20th century, causing increased concern about the effects humans are having on global warming.

(a) to the highest recorded in the 20th century,
(b) to the level in the 20th century that was the highest recorded,
(c) to the record high in the 20th century,
(d) to a 20th century record high,
(e) to the highest level recorded in the 20th century.

OA is E

Why not D?

Hi pareekbharat86,

The correct answer to this SC is based on a mix of modification and "style." Narrowing the options down to D and E means that you're real close to the correct answer.

The early part of the SC mentions the "average global temperature increased.....", so we need to continue this sentence to what it increased TO....

The next part of this sentence should be the degree/temperature/level that it increased to, with the modifier "...20th century...." after. Modifying "dates" usually come after the noun that they describe.
