First thing first, "consider..." is broken down with choices of "consider X to be Y," "consider X as Y," "consider X Y," and "consider X are Y."

Here's a link direct from MGMAT expert on this matter: https://www.manhattangmat.com/forums/idi ... t2758.html

So with the above explanation in mind, we can eliminate B/C/E.

Between A and D, we can eliminate A on the incorrect usage of "if," which symbolizes possibility of multiple scenarios as oppose to "whether," which is used for yes/no scenarios.
Yep.

Hmmm, can we have a "critic of a trend towards something"? Don't we generally have a "critic of something"?

I am interested in the source of this question because of the weirdness of the aforesaid construction. Please provide the source.

The answer choices can be eliminated by application of standard rules (outlined by uwhusky).

This is very easy if you know how to use consider and how to use whether/if. Consider is not paired with any statement after it (such as to be). Also, choose whether and not if in this case because you are choosing between two options (profits made or not made). If (if I recall) is used when you are choosing among three or more options. Very easy if you know this..answer is D.
