Stategy to beat verbal?

by beatitin11 » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:48 pm
This is my first post on this forum. I am planning to give my GMAT in May'11. I gave the Princeton Review Free Test yesterday afternoon. I got 610, V=28, Q=47 ..

I had prepared for 4 weeks, approximately 6-8 hrs per week.. My breakdown of verbal was: CR = 10 out of 12 questions correct, RC = 7 out of 14 correct, SC = 9 out of 15 correct..

I see that my weakness is in SC and RC (as is for many!!). My plan is to go through MGMAT SC book as many times (3-4times) till I am conversant with all the Grammar topics and use Aristotle RC99 for RCs.. Apart from that I have OG12, MGMAT RC too.

Will this be a good strategy to bring this V=28 score up to 35-40? I am confident that I can build my Quant score up from 47 to 49-51.

Any suggestions?

I'd be a little skeptical about the Princeton Review tests as the questions are not very representative of what you're likely to see on the actual GMAT. You may wanna rather take a GMATPREP to get a better estimate ,or if you don't want to use GMATPREP, you may wanna use MGMAT FREE CAT.
If you're struggling with Sentence Correction, I think that you may find SC Grail very very useful. I guess using it in conjuction with Manhattan SC Guide will really help you nail SC questions.
Whether going through all the books will help you raise your Verbal score to 40 will depend a lot on how have you been approaching Verbal. If you go through my debrief, one of the points I have mentioned is that you really need to analyze each question and not just keep on doing questions n number of questions. I think with a thorough analysis of questions/concepts , you'll be able to develop an instinct which will not let you down on the G- day.
