need help in writing essay

Hi ...


I am Laksh Kaul from India, presently working in Automobile sector with
total work experience of 7 yrs approx. I m planning to tkae GMAT by
aug & looking ahead to apply in ISB, INSEAD or UK B schools.

I have already started preparing for my essays. I need you consultation
to guide in writing my essays

Essay as below

Give 3 reasons as to why you should be selected to the class of 2011. These reasons should ideally differentiate you from the applicant pool and should be backed with some data


Plz guide me what should be the key reasons, which i should describe
in essay to outshine my essay applcation vis a vis others.

Hello and thanks for your interesting question. I'm afraid that I cannot give you terribly specific advice but I can give you some thoughts about the kind of thing that this question is looking for. At the end of the day, it is your challenge to identify the things about yourself that really set you apart.
Give 3 reasons as to why you should be selected to the class of 2011. These reasons should ideally differentiate you from the applicant pool and should be backed with some data.
I have seen time and again how when an applicant really thinks carefully about what makes them unique that their application just soars! A good consultant can help you organize and communicate your ideas better but the kernel of the idea and the energy behind it must come from you.

All that said, some thoughts:

- This has some parallels with the classic interview question: "What are your greatest strengths?" to which I would add the coda "...a business school applicant?" Another way to phrase this is, "What are the three most valuable things that you bring to this business school?"

- Now, there are number of different ways to think about and organize your response:

a) One way is to think about areas of your life: business experience, diversity, community service and talk about how you shine in each of those and WHY THEY ARE RELEVANT TO YOUR BEING ADMITTED.

b) Another approach is to say, here are three areas where I will contribute: in class, out of class, as an alumnus.

c) Another approach is to go to the business school's website, identify the top three qualities that they are looking for in applicants, and then match your skills and experience to the question. The upside is that you know that you are giving them what they are looking for in terms of what they value; the downside is that there is not a great deal of creativity and it may come off as kind of rote.


There are two themes I want you to pick up on here:

- You need to have some organizing principle for your reasons

- You absolutely MUST TIE THE REASONS BACK TO WHY YOU SHOULD BE ADMITTED. You should --either express or implied-- the idea that "this quality of mine will meaningfully improve the experience of my classmates and the program overall [or something similar] because..."
