I currently work in investment management, but my ultimate goal and career vision is to work as a sports executive. I believe I have put together a sound, rational plan for reaching this goal; I should also mention that I do have a decent network of contacts that work in the NFL. I want to be as honest and genuine with my essays as possible, but I am a bit reluctant to share this vision in my essays just because it seems like such a huge change from my current role and my professional experience up to this point , although I did intern for an NFL team in their finance department for 18+ months during college. Any advice?
Hi Mars128,
One of the biggest reasons people go to top business schools is to switch careers. The AdCom is not going to look at your audacious career goal and chunk your application in the trash because it is too "different" than what you used to do. You just need to have a clear explanation for why you think this career path is the right one for you, and how your prior experiences have prepared you (or not prepared you) for it. The fact that you interned in the sports industry is a huge bonus as well. It shows that you have been interested in this industry for awhile.
Your future job sounds super-fun! Good luck!
