I'm retaking my GMATs in late August. I was unprepared my first go around.
I come from such a unique background - BA in Graphic Design but have always had interest in marketing. I believe I have a 2.8 Overall GPA but 3.5 in my core. I'm shooting for 700+

A few years ago I was promoted to the social media marketing manager for a top magazine publishing company- managing the SM strategies for over 50 titles.

Has anyone ever encountered people from art/design backgrounds? I'm not looking to get into Harvard or Yale, top100 school is fine for me.

Thanks for your advice
Joel

Hello,

Yes, I have worked with people coming from arts-oriented backgrounds and from publishing. The good thing about it is that b-school adcoms want to have diverse professional backgrounds, and your background would be a strong differentiating factor - you would bring a different and unique perspective to the class.

On the other hand, adcoms for any level of b-schools will want some indication that you can handle the quantitative portions of the coursework if you come from a non-typical background. If you have undergrad quant coursework and earned a B or better, that would suffice, as would a reasonable percentile on the GMAT quant portion (80% or better for top schools, 75% or better otherwise). You also could take a basic quant course or two at a community college such as statistics or calculus if you didn't have them as an undergrad - and earn a B+ at least.

Best regards,
