hi..

I am an Indian Applicant.
Graduated in 2005 from Delhi University - B.Com (pass) 51.25%
GMAT 640
I have been working as a director in our family business (for 6 yrs) and managing close to 400 employees.(Group valuation USD 300 million)
I have also climbed Nanda Devi peak ( which is 7816 meters and is second highest in India)
Apart from that I have also climbed 2-3 other peaks as well.

Do you think that an extra-curricular activity such as mountaineering will be an advantage in my profile..

I want to target schools such as HBS, Wharton , Stanford etc.

Dear miamisaint,

I think mountaineering is certainly an interesting activity outside of work that could make for a compelling essay. It might even be enough to distinguish you from similarly profiled applicants. If you truly want to target top 10 MBA programs like HBS and Wharton though, I do encourage you to do a bit of research on these schools and their requirements. Be sure you are eligible with only a B.Comm degree as many US business schools will not view the B.Comm as equivalent to a 4-yr US degree. Also, your GMAT is on the low side for these schools and relative to other applicants from India. You might want to retake the GMAT to increase your score to be more competitive.

Which schools would you recommend for me ?

I have been involved in a senior level management position in our group and have also started my own business venture in UK.

Generally speaking, you will competitive for schools where your GMAT and GPA are at or above the average AND the school is a good match for you in terms of curriculum and resources. For tips on identifying schools, I encourage you to visit our sticky on school selection.
