Perhaps for many people 680 would be a low score! But I'm very happy about it, I'm sure it will enable me to get into some good school! Hooray!! Thanks to this forum, it really helped me a lot and gave me courage!! I started with a GMATPrep and got a 590 cold. After 7 weeks of study (I studied by myself, no external help!) I made it to 680 (Q43, V40)!! I'm so happy!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One year after this post, I decided that 680 wasn't enough. Competition was going up, I decided to apply to top10 schools... so here I am again, studying (again) for the gmat! The monster came back to hunt me, but I plan to hunt it back this time! :)

I've been studying for around 2 months. I plan to apply next year, so I have plenty of time. I've focused (for the first month), only on the Verbal part of the test. That is my strongest part, but I feel like I can well improve it. I've dedicated a lot of time to CR and SC. Well, both my last two MGMAT practice tests showed 45 in V, so I believe I'm on the right track!

Math is definitely my weakest part, not because I hate or dislike math, but because I haven't studied math at college level almost at all. So it took/is taking longer; i've hired a provate tutor who's helping me a lot, a real GMAT guru who can teach me how to think about problems and what's the logic behind problems. My aim is 48.

Yesterday I took my first full MGMAT test (MGMAT3) and I got a 740 (Q47, V45). I must say that I found a repeat in the Q part and I took 6 minutes more than normal time to complete the test. Still I have a lot of review to do yet, and I'm pretty happy with the improvement so far!

I'll keep you guys posted!!

How?

by mjjking » Tue Aug 21, 2007 9:33 am
Well, thanks for the congratulations!

I basically studied and tried to improve my weakest spots. I'm earning (next January) a BA in Cultural Anthropology, that is in a social science. Not having done any math in my last 5 years was a hurdle for me, so I focused on it and I improved dramatically. Then I focused on the verbal part, especially on the sentence correction and critical reasoning, which were my two weaknesses.
I used Manhattan GMAT textbooks (very useful, really!! I will praise them forever) and the Official Review books. I also used the Delta Course website and I found it interesting and very useful!

I'm so happy!

Done with the first GMATFocus test. Score range: 46-50! It is really gmat like, and I really advise you to take it, it is administered by GMAC itself!
So my 47 on the MGMAT was real! I'm happy!! :) I'm improving!

I've just done my first GMATPrep, and I got a good 720 (Q45, V45).
I must say that like I remembered, questions on GMATPrep are a bit different than the ones in MGMAT. Less problem solving and more algebra. I still have problems with geometry and number properties... I must focus on them I realize, even though I made two very silly mistakes in problem solving that I believe would have put my score to Q46.
Even though I had some repeats from either previous tests/beat the gmat (I think 3 in Q and 5-6 in V) I believe my score to be fairly representative of my strenght so far.
All in all, I am quite satisfied, but aware that there's a lot of road to go still!!

So, in the last 4-5 days I've speeded down a little bit. I've taken 15 days out of work before the exam and to focus well only on GMAT, and so I'm just resting for 5-6 days BEFORE the final rush where I will dedicate as much time as I can to the GMAT.
I'm feeling confident I can beat it and score a 710+, so let's hope for the best!

So, yeasterday I've taken my 2nd GMATPrep test and got a 710 (Q45, V41), with only 2 questions in total (1 for each section) that I had already seen. So I believe my score is representative of my real abilities.
Again, I've done 3-4 stupid mistakes in the Q part that surely brought my score down 1-2 points (I missed a very easy question!), while the Verbal part was unusually difficult! But it may have been the fact that I had waken up early in the morning and that I hadn't slept too well too, as I was quite tired during Verbal.
In any case, I feel like I'm improving, and I'm getting confident to score 710 at tleast on the real thing. I try to simulate the test as more realistically as possible, and I usually don't feel the pressure during tests, so--- let's see! :)

Ok, done my last gmatfocus and got a 44-50.
While the margin is still pretty wide (and I got only 2 questions wrong) at least it puts me in the higher range! :) I believe at this point I can achieve 46-47 in the test! :)
