Hi there!

I've recently started in earnest my pursuit for a top MBA. Having found this site enormously helpful so far, I was wondering if I could get some of your views on my chances of getting accepted at a top school. My brief background:

- 1st class degree achieved at top London university in BSc Business Management
- 2.5 years in strategy consulting at a top consultancy in London
- AAB grades in A level (high school / pre university)
- some extracurricular stuff: joint owner of a start up company, planning to be on the committee of my high school and university alumni network

Apart from that there's not much else!!

Although it'll be hard, I'm assuming that if I work my butt off on GMAT and get 700+ this won't be a barrier in terms of getting accepted.

Any thoughts on 1) what my chances are getting into a top10 MBA, 2) what I should do to improve my chances and 3) any general views you may have would be much appreciated!

Many thanks
SH

Hi SH,

You sound like a stellar candidate, the one issue you are going to face is being a bit typical. Many applicants have business undergrad degrees and have worked in consulting. Your job in the application process will be demonstrating how you are different from the other high achieving consultants in the pool.

Extracurriculars can help, and probably the most important aspect is really crafting the essays to show what a unique individual you are. I think your start up could be interesting, and the alumni activities could be useful if you are able to communicate something interesting about them.

Good luck!
