Profile Evaluation, Please and Thanks!

by abigelow2 » Fri Dec 10, 2010 1:10 pm
Hi. Thanks for taking the time to evaluate my profile. My goal is a top 30 U.S. MBA program with a concentration in real estate. Is it possible?

3.78 GPA, B.A. Economics, Western mid-level undergraduate program

GMAT 670 (1st attempt)
Quant 46, Verbal 35

Resume highlights (lowlights?) include:
4 years work at a Fortune 500 company, Financial data analysis
8 years work experience in construction project management and cost estimating

Thanks!

Dear abigelow2,

Based on the limited information in your post, you appear to have the GPA and GMAT of a competitive profile at a top 30 program. You have substantial work experience, so the question is what the quality of your experience has been in your tenure. Have you advanced? have you gained a depth/breadth of knowledge in your industry? have you built a comprehensive, managerial skill set? do you have accomplishments/contributions to note on your resume/write about in your essays? Likewise, your rationale for an MBA and career goals are key components in your evaluation. Thus your essays, recommendations and interviews will be equivalent factors in your ultimate admissions decisions. I encourage you to research the programs to identify those that are the best match for you and put the effort in to craft a strong, overall application package. Then, you will give yourself the best chance for admission.

Good luck,
Lisa
