When to Apply to B-School

I am in the process of studying to take the GMAT in May and have a question regarding when to apply. I have one semester left next Fall 2012 before graduation but am wondering if I should apply to schools while still in my undergraduate program during round 1 or wait until I have graduated and apply in the second and third round of applications.

I have a background in teaching as well as my current major of Graphic Communications. I currently teach at a college as a part-time faculty member while I am finishing my Communications degree. My goal is to expand upon my Graphic Communications degree so that I can transition into the business side of things rather than the production and estimating side. I am looking into general management programs in the Pittsburgh area such as Pitt and Duquesne Universities so that I can continue to work while I am attending school if possible. I hope this helps clarify my goals if not I can expand on my intentions.

Well you can apply to Yale Silver Scholars, or HBS 2+2, or European MiM programs.

If you want a regular run of the mill US program though, you'll have to wait three years or so, as Jim pointed out.

Thank you for the reply. I am going to do more research into those programs and see if I meet the criteria to apply based on previous admissions.

Another question? Being my full-time work experience will be as an estimator, buyer, or customer service rep in the print industry when I do graduate. Will that experience allow me to increase my chances of being accepted to a top 15 program in the future or will it be a wash because it is not in a managerial role?

Well, nobody STARTS at a managerial role from undergrad. But you should try and choose a position that will leave you the opportunity for advancement. And then, work really really really hard to get it.
