Hi hardika,

What were your scores on your GMAT (Quant & Verbal Scaled Scores, Essay and IR)?

Since you spent some time studying already, you might not need a large set of new resources to improve your score.

Hi,

My score was 48 in quant, 31 in verbal, 8 in IR, and 4.5 in AWA.

Hi hardika,

With your scores, most of your "missing points" are going to be found in the Verbal section. While you can find a few additional points in Quant, if your goal is to score 700+, then a V31 will not be enough to get you there.

Depending on the amount of time that you have available to study, you could put some intense focus on the Verbal (with a bit of Quant to keep your skills sharp) and retake the GMAT within a month. Are you facing any deadlines?

Hi,

My aim is to score above 700 at any cost. I don't have much idea about which universities I should apply to. I'm a little apprehensive about taking the exam within a month, as I'm not sure if it will allow me enough time to prepare for a 700+ score. Can you suggest any good and reliable institutes where I can get some coaching and counseling assistance from?

Hi hardika,

If you're interested in only on-site GMAT classes that are physically located in South Delhi, then I can't offer much perspective (what happens when you "Google" the subject?).

How did you go about studying the first time? If you were self-studying before, then with the proper new resources and training there's a very real potential to retest in a month's time and hit your score goal.

Hi Rich,

It's very encouraging of you to say that a 700+ score can be attained in a month's time :)

Earlier, I studied from Magoosh, did the Manhattan test series (my score was constant throughout, 640 each time), found some 700-800 level questions online and prepared RCs,CRs and SCs from those. The biggest challenge is that there are certain topics in quant which I am not very clear about. I believe I need professional coaching to improve my understanding in those areas. Please suggest if you have anything in mind wrt this.

You say that the biggest "challenge is some Quant topics".
I really think you need to approach your studies differently. We have a tendency to focus all our energies in quant (I guess it's the Indian thing to do). But how much further can you improve in Quant, from 48 to 51 that is the furthest you can go. Right now spending time on the "challenging maths topics" should seem like a waste to time and effort. Say you get to Quant 51 and Verbal stays at 31 your overall will be 670. Whereas a 48 Quant and 36 Verbal gives you 690.

I am not saying completely forget about Quant, but that should not be the focus area initially. You will see that with the right approach Verbal might grow much more easily- as thr is more score for growth. And it will also give you a more rounded score- something universities do look at.

As far as coaching is concerned I am not a very big fan of GMAT classroom coaching in India/Delhi. You do have Jamboree that you can try maybe, but I think there is such a great availability of resources/courses online that you can explore rather than going to a class. The rest ofcourse is your call.

Where do you suggest I prepare quant and verbal from, so as to develop a wholesome study pattern? Last time I prepared,I just picked random topics and worked on them. I wanna be much more organized this time.

Hi hardika,

Most GMAT Companies offer some type of free materials (practice problems, Trial accounts, etc.), so that you can sample the various products and get a "feel" for them. Since there are plenty of options to choose from, you should do some investigating, try them out and pick the one that best matches your personality, timeline and budget.

Since you've scored pretty well already (650 is the 80th percentile overall), you probably won't need to spend too much more time or money on the process.
