Went down 80 pts! Help!

by MoeLuvsMoney » Sat Feb 19, 2011 7:14 pm
Very frustrated right now.

After 1 week of perp I took the free Kaplan test, scored a 520 (29Q/33V).

I thought ok, we have some work to do. I have not been studying verbal at all, but 1-2 hours a day of GMAT specific math.

I just took the free Knewton test with this result: 440(21Q/27V)!!!!!!

Any 80 point drop?!?! Feeling a bit dejected. I will be taking the GMATprep tests next week as I near my actual test date.

Has anyone taken these two practice test and seen a similar discrepancy?

Unfortunately no one replied here. Since you must have already taken the test, how did you do?
Vineesh,
Just telling you what I know and think. I am not the expert. :)

Sorry for the super-late reply here. Hope you realized that since they are two different tests made by two different prep companies, it isn't unusual to score 50-100 pts different. Practice CATs are great for working on questions in a test-like environment for pacing and stamina-building, but I wouldn't put too much faith in the score they churn out at the end (not to pick on these companies specifically; I often recommend their materials, but I think this is true for ALL private CATs). Think of the score as a "ballpark." If you see your score improve over several tests with the SAME company, I think that's a good indication of improvement. However, Powerprep is the most reliable indicator of your actual GMAT score.
