When to start preparing the applications?

by doctortt » Sun Mar 08, 2009 3:40 pm
Is it too early to prepare the b-school application while i'm still studying GMAT? Some MBA grads told me that if you want to give the best shot for an interview, you should find some professionals for consulting, essay revision, application preparation, interview practice and etc, and that will take quite some time.

Hi Doc,
Thanks for your question. I would not recommend working on your essays right now, esp if you are studying for the GMAT. Instead, focus on the test to get the best score possible.

Glad you are thinking about the process early on. After your test, I would recommend that you start looking into programs and figuring out what schools you are competitive for and which best fit your long term goals. Maybe even consider visiting the schools and/or start networking with students/alums/faculty to learn more about the program.

As you get closer to the fall, then I would start thinking about your essays. If you know what schools you are applying to, I would strongly recommend applying in R1; at least for your top choices.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

N
