by Mani_mba » Sun Sep 21, 2008 11:08 pm
691. The aristocratic values expressed in the writings of Marguerite Yourcenar place her within the French classical tradition, as does her passionate interest in history, particularly Roman history.
(A) as does
(B) so do
(C) as do
(D) so is the case with
(E) similarly, does

Please Explain your reasoning.

@Mani_mba, i will go with A.
We are comparing 2 actions here. 'aristocratic values place her within the french tradition' and 'interest in history (ALSO) places her within the french tradition. hence we should go with 'as'
we come down to A and C.
C is incorrect, because 'passionate interest' is singular but 'so do' would be used for plural (in case we had her passionate interests)

i hope it helps!

@vivek.kapoor83

usage of singular - his interest in music does not matter to his parents.

usage of plural - his interests in history and travel do show that he is a learned man.
