In the admissions process, universities have begun to focus more and more on recommendations from teachers and personal statements from students, in part that their student body should acquire diversity and partly because recommendations provide more personal appraisals of students' abilities.

in part that their student body should acquire diversity

in part for the acquisition of diversity in their student body

partly because of their student body acquiring diversity

partly because diversity should be acquired by their student body

partly to acquire diversity in their student body

E looks better.. but its not parallel..

I will go with D, eventhough it looks a bit awkward to me.

The answer must be E.

Like adi_800 said, this question is similar to an OG question- cattle breeders one. Refer the following link.

We have to use "partly" to maintain parallelism. Hence, A and B are out.

Option D makes it appear as if the student body should acquire diversity. However, this has to be ensured by the universities. Option C has same problem and wrong tense.

E is the best.
