Jim’s income comes from his wages and from tips. For a certain month, if Jim’s income from his wages was 180 percent of his income from tips, approximately what percent of his total income came from tips?

A. 18%
B. 25%
C. 36%

"For a certain month, if Jim’s income from his wages was 180 percent of his income from tips" ----> [wages ($) / Tips ($) ] * 100% = 180%

------> wages ($) / Tips ($) = 1.8 ....
choosing easy #s to work with will lead to wages ($) = 18$ and Tips ($) = 10$.

"approximately what percent of his total income came from tips? "

Total income = wages ($) + tips ($) = 18$ + 10$ = 28$

[Tips($) / Total ($) ] * 100% = [ 10$/ 28$] *100% = 36% [C]

I hope this helps

Let Jim's income from his tips equal x.

Jim's income from his wage= 1.8(x)

Jim's total income= 1.8(x)+x=2.8(x)

% of total income that came from tips= x/2.8(x)=10/28=5/14*100=36%

Real simple.

Question is asking what is T/(T+W)?

we know that W=1.8T so plug W and get T/(1.8T+T).

This equals T/(2.8T). Cancel T's then solve 1/2.8 which equals approximately 36%. for answer C.
