Help on verbal improvement -

by surajsagi » Mon Jan 05, 2009 2:13 am
Hi all,

Brief background - started preparing for GMAT in May 2008, took the test in sep and got 650 (49q, 30v), reworked on verbal and took the test again in Dec, only to get 640 (49q, 28v). (I am from India, so a high score is a must for me)

While preparing the second time, i did realize that i need to analyze my test more comprehensively and saw an improvement in my score also (660 - 680 range), however things didn’t turn out the right way

Wanted help of this group, especially the teachers and counselors

I plan to retake the exam in Aug this yr, so I have roughly 6 months on my hand, which I want to utilize 100% towards my verbal improvement.

Please help with suggestions on how I can improve my fundamentals and grasp over the language

Thanks,
SM

Try reading the verbal sections of my blog in my signature - you might find some tips/hints. Since you have 6 months time, I'd suggest reading daily from newpapers and magazines - the print and writing style are often short and to the point due to size constraints. More idioms are used also. Don't waste time reading English novels though.
