You should be picking schools in terms of their ability to supply the education you need to reach your goals. Once you know what you want to do with an MBA, spend time familiarizing yourself with the course offerings and requirements of schools for which you fit the statistical profile. Be aware that meeting all the criteria is no guarantee of admission, since all highly-ranked schools have many time as many outstanding candidates as they can accept. Admission is highly influenced by the profile of your competition.

Your final list should provide a balance between safety, "sweet spot" and dream schools. Be sure to look at rankings by specialty. Often a school that has a modest overall ranking will be very highly ranked in your area of interest. Those schools present excellent options for someone who knows what he/she want to do long term.

Good luck,
Tani Wolff
