so how important is it to use real life/history examples for the analysis of issue essays? how many real-life or historical examples are we expected to use? what if we can't think of any good ones?

First of all, although I realize this post is pretty old, I thought that the answer to this question could be useful to many people, so here goes:
Using real life or historical examples is extremely important to writing good Analysis of an Issue essays. I always recommend that students include one (and only one) specific real world example per paragraph. A good general rule is that your example should be a proper noun (name, place, work of literature, company, etc.). Optimally, I recommend three body paragraphs plus an introduction and a conclusion.
Also, some people may find it helpful to think up examples that can apply to numerous topics before going in to take the actual test. For example, you might read a full newspaper or magazine to get some ideas.
