Ambiguous placement of "both"

by yvonne0923 » Wed May 11, 2011 8:52 pm
Independent theaters in Philadelphia have largely abandoned the production of Broadway touring shows and now they often showcase the talents both of local artists who write about local issues and those about broader topics.

A. now they often showcase the talents both of local artists who write about local issues and those
B. now often showcase the talents of local artists, both those who write about local issues and those who write
C. they often showcase the talents of local artists now, both those writing about local issues and who write
D. often showcase now the talents both of local artists writing about local issues and who are writing
E. often showcase the talents of both local artists writing about local issues and those
O.A: B
Anyone can help me to clarify the placement of the word "both", what is the difference of meaning between choice B and E?

E takes now away which alters the meaning.

Those in the second part makes it unparallel.
Vineesh,

Op E

showcase the talents of both local artists writing about local issues and those about broader topics.

The word "WRITING" is missing in the second part...if u split the sentence and read independently, the u get

showcase the talents of local artists writing about local issues ----> okay

showcase the talents of those about broader topics. ----> incorrect

u see in second THOSE doing what??? is missing and making this part meaningless

Hope this help!!!
