In the xy plane , what is the y intercept of line l?

1.The slope of the line is 3 times the y intercept
2.The x-intercept of the line is -1/3

Both clues give you the same information. Neither gives you enough to answer the question.

In response to the first clue you have y = mx + m/3. You still have no information about the value of m.

You can manipulate the first clue to get the second.

Using the equation y = mx + m/3, the x intercept is calculated by letting y = 0. You get:

0 = mx + m/3 - which becomes:

mx = -m/3

Divide both sides by m you get x = -1/3.

Since both clues give you the same information and the first was insufficient, , you cannot put them together to solve the problem.
