notation: "fps" = "feet per second"

time travelled = 0.5 hour = 30 x 60 seconds

Is distance > 6 miles?
Is distance > 6 x 5280 feet?
Is distance > 6 x 16 x 33 x 10 feet?

Statement 1:

speed > 16fps
distance > 16 x 30 x 6 x 10 feet (compare this with the question stem; clearly this is insufficient).

Statement 2:

speed < 18fps
distance < 18 x 30 x 6 x 10 feet

since 18 x 30 > 16 x 33, this statement is insufficient without a lower boundary.

Both statements together:

16 x 30 x 6 x 10 < distance < 18 x 30 x 6 x 10

to make the calculation simpler, I am going to remove all common multiples from the question stem and the inequality:

is distance > 16 x 33? (I removed 6 x 10)
16 x 30 < distance < 18 x 30

is distance > 8 x 11? ( I removed 2 x 3)
8 x 10 < distance < 9 x 10
80 < distance < 90

Now, the simplified question stem asks if the distance > 88? The combined simplified info we have is that distance can be between 80 and 90. Clearly this is insufficient.
