GMAT Fiasco 590 (Q 48, V 23)

Sort of happy about the quans score by a dismal performance in total.
I am planning to apply for the 2010. I already hold a decent TOEFL score and I hope my AWA score would be good.
I was scoring around this range in my practice sets as well. The last was on PowerPREP with 630.
I am planning to apply to the univs in Europe since I am looking for a 1 yr MBA.Like to know from you guyz about my chances of getting accepted

Planning to take the GMAT again after 3 months.
Read everything from Kaplan Workbook.
Books:
OG11
Kaplan Workbook
McGraw Hill- for verbal
Princeton Tests- Took just 2 tests
GMAT prep-2 tests
ETS Powerprep-2 tests
I just wish I had more time to go thro; the rest of the materials I had.
I went thro' this forum a quite a number of times. Since I am planning for the early 2010 intake,is it okay to submit the application while I retake the test?
What should I do to improve my score. I don;t want to take it again and score less than what I have got.

My profile:
Bachelor of engg- India
Decent acads
Work Exp: 5 yrs in IT
International Exposure: 2 yrs in UK
Been in product & process management but no exposure to people management.
Extra Curricular:Decent

Thanks

What GMAT score is sufficient depends on the college you are planning to join. However, I feel, 590 is on lower side. Which colleges you are looking at in UK?

For more detail and comparison, check out MBA.com.

Best part is the site gives comprehensive stats, including avg GMAT score, of each college. You can compare colleges also.

Thanks Karmayogi for your inputs.
I am planning to take up GMAT again in 2-3 months time.
I am planning for Warwick, Cranfield, RSM & Amsterdam business school.
I know it is difficult to get into these schools with my score.

Can you please suggest a strategy I need to follow to crack GMAT at least the second time?
Planning to get OG - Verbal, Quantitative books
Go thro' OG11 again.
Can you suggest me some books for verbal?
I need to re-work on quans as well. I found that working on verbal, the quans go to the lower side and vice-versa. How to beat this?

Thanks a lot guyz.

I would hardly call 590 a fiasco. Its an OK score and you can definitely get into these schools with that score, provided the rest of your application is really strong. I know some people who got in with scores around 550. So, keep up the good hope.

Regarding study material and strategy to improve your score, check the forum; it has lots of posts on such topics, especially check the sticky and a resent post from Logitech.

Regarding “Can you please suggest a strategy I need to follow to crack GMAT at least the second time?,” we are on the same boat . I am also trying to find a formula to ensure the success in my second attempt.

Quant only needs practice. Don’t try to solve very difficult question, but try to understand all the concept. Ensure that you are able to apply them quickly. One more thing, OG 11 quants questions are simpler, in terms of length and trickiness than real GMAT, so try out MGMAT maths.

I agree with Dino that high GMAT score is not a passport to B-school and your profile has higher weightage.

Remember that when studying, quality is more important than quantity. You can get a really great GMAT score just by using the Official Guide - you don't need loads of other books. Rather than just working through lots of material, slow down and spend time to analyze every question that you do. One of the best things to do is to look at the wrong answers on verbal questions and see why they are wrong. Don't just look at the answer, say "oh, I get it", and then keep going. You didn't learn anything, then!

Good luck!

Thanks Jim, Karmayogi and Musicolo for your support
I am going to kick off my prep again today.
BTW, got my AWA score- 6.0.
Tej,
I am not sure about the schools in India. I believe for one to study and in a good B-school, the GMAT score should be high.
I would have been happy with a 650 but now with me starting the prep again, I will not settle for anything less.
Jim, Karmayogi, I went thro' a website on GMAT and they have mentioned that one would not see much improvement on taking GMAT multiple times. Is this true? I have seen the way people improve remarkable in this forum. This has made me feel a little down.

Thanks
