A chance at H/S/W?

by AZ2hot » Sat Jun 30, 2007 6:26 am
Stacy,

I would like to get your take on my chances at either Harvard, Stanford or Wharton/Lauder. I graduated from a top 25 state school with a 3.35 in Finance. I am the first one on either side of my family to have graduated college and self-financed 100% of my education. My practice GMAT's have so far yielded between 700 and 720. I have been working the past three years for a division of Citigroup Private Wealth Management, and am starting a new job in a couple of weeks with a boutique IB that works exclusively with Private Equity firms and will be there for the next two years. I took two years off durring undergrad for volunteer service for my church in South America where I lead a group of 200 other volunteers. I speak Spanish fluently and have been active in other organizations as a volunteer. At this point, knowing that I can't go back and pull up my GPA, what are some areas that I should focus on to improve my candidacy? I appreciate your response.

Hi AZ2hot,

Your background and experiences sound like excellent raw material for an MBA application.

The academic part of your profile is evaluated as some combination of GMAT and GPA, as well as some consideration of what quantitative academic background you have. Your GPA is not bad at all, but a high GMAT score could certainly add to your profile. If you want even further assurance that you can do the work, you could consider taking continuing education classes in business related subjects, and getting A's.

Good luck!
