IMO "b"

Large corporations are prevented from conspiracy on restraining trade by antitrust laws that were passed at the turn of the century, but they needed the further support of Supreme Court decisions to be wholly effective.

a) Large corporations are prevented from conspiracy on restraining trade by antitrust laws that were passed at the turn of the century, but they
Who they ? Corporations or laws ?

b) Large corporations, prevented from conspiring to restrain trade by antitrust laws passed at the turn of the century, but the laws
Correct

c) Conspiracy to restrain trade by large corporations was prevented by antitrust laws passed at the turn of the century, but they have
change in tense due to have. Better is simple tense. I think "but they" would have been enough.

d) Antitrust laws which were passed at the turn of the century, prevented large corporations from conspiring on restraining trade, but such laws have
Such laws says that laws similar to Antitrust laws. Better would have been "these laws". Also change in tense due to have. Better is simple tense. I think "but they" would have been enough.

e) Antitrust laws were passed at the turn of the century to prevent large corporations from conspiring to restrain trade, but such laws have
Such laws says that laws similar to Antitrust laws. Better would have been "these laws". Also change in tense due to have. Better is simple tense. I think "but they" would have been enough.

Option B is incorrect though it uses correct idiom "conspiring to", because of the simple reason that opening clause doesn't contain a verb and so creates a run on sentence.

On the contrary option E doesn't have tense error as pointed by you. See below:
Antitrust laws were passed at the turn of the century to prevent large corporations from conspiring to restrain trade, but such laws have

Yes these laws were passed in past

But these laws or such laws like laws similar to those one have...yes they do have..they do exist..and so ongoing one which requires correct have as verb...

Large corporations are prevented from conspiracy on restraining trade by antitrust laws that were passed at the turn of the century, but they[/b] needed the further support of Supreme Court decisions to be wholly effective.

I dont see anything wrong with option A

And also THEY clearly refers back to Large operations since it is the subject of the first independent clause.

Am I right here ?

A is using passive voice so I eliminated this. (Large corporations are prevented)

B like stated above lacks a verb

C uses passive voice.

D is awkward because of "conspiring on restraining trade."

IMO the answer is E.

"they" should refer to laws.

Either way, I'd say A.

I would go with E.

I think, there is a tense change required in the sentence. Because the laws are still being enforced.

Antitrust laws were passed at the turn of the century to prevent large corporations from conspiring to restrain trade, but such laws have....

What is OA ?

Large corporations are prevented from conspiracy on restraining trade by antitrust laws that were passed at the turn of the century, but they

Large corporations, prevented from conspiring to restrain trade by antitrust laws passed at the turn of the century, but the laws

Conspiracy to restrain trade by large corporations was prevented by antitrust laws passed at the turn of the century, but they have

Antitrust laws which were passed at the turn of the century, prevented large corporations from conspiring on restraining trade, but such laws have

Antitrust laws were passed at the turn of the century to prevent large corporations from conspiring to restrain trade, but such laws have

I say E... it includes "conspiring to" (idiom) and "have" (and reads, have needed). Have needed is impt b/c it is ongoing.

IMO E and the reason is as follows:

Large corporations are prevented from conspiracy on restraining trade by antitrust laws that were passed at the turn of the century, but they
Unecessary use of passive voice when you have a better option below

Large corporations, prevented from conspiring to restrain trade by antitrust laws passed at the turn of the century, but the laws
Run on sentence.

Conspiracy to restrain trade by large corporations was prevented by antitrust laws passed at the turn of the century, but they have
unecessary use of passive voice

Antitrust laws which were passed at the turn of the century, prevented large corporations from conspiring on restraining trade, but such laws have
usage of wrong idiom and wordy compared to E

Antitrust laws were passed at the turn of the century to prevent large corporations from conspiring to restrain trade, but such laws have

This sentence uses the correct idiom conspiring to. In addition it avoids wordiness and passive voice as in D and A respectively

I hope i'm right

Please give the OA!!

IMO E.. Though "have needed " seems awakward

Large corporations are prevented from conspiracy on restraining trade by antitrust laws that were passed at the turn of the century, but they<- Pronoun reference error

Large corporations, prevented from conspiring to restrain trade by antitrust laws passed at the turn of the century, but the laws
<- Removing the modifier from between will not make a meaningful sentence

Conspiracy to restrain trade by large corporations was prevented by antitrust laws passed at the turn of the century, but they have

Antitrust laws which were passed at the turn of the century, prevented large corporations from conspiring on restraining trade, but such laws have <- Wordy and incorrect idiom Conspiring to is the correct usage

Antitrust laws were passed at the turn of the century to prevent large corporations from conspiring to restrain trade, but such laws have<- Parallelism and correct idiom usage

Yes, in "b" opening clause does not contain a verb so incorrect.

If we modify "b" a bit like below. Now which one would have been better answer among modified "b" and "e"

b) Large corporations "were" prevented from conspiring to restrain trade by antitrust laws passed at the turn of the century, but the laws

e) Antitrust laws were passed at the turn of the century to prevent large corporations from conspiring to restrain trade, but such laws have

'E' changes the meaning here....as if the corporations themselve are conspiring to restrain their own trade....dom't you think so.....

I think 'A' is the best answer
