Statement requires an contrast, so one of the though statement need to be choosen. Original one is definetly problematic in use of like , another one has been already choosen so I will go with C.

The other two options starting "with" should fail the meaning tests.

It should be "B"
we need 'such as' to show examples, and either side of "and" should be parallel.
in population and in the intensity

One more vote for B.

Have been can not be used with AGO. So we need WERE.

SUCH AS is needed and also // makes this choice the best one.

Just read C without "non restictive clause" set off in a pair of commas and B clear winner
