GMAT - Retake - Strategy needed

by raghavakumar85 » Thu Dec 10, 2009 1:54 am
Hi Guys,

I gave my gmat last week and I was disappointed with my score. 580 (Q 48 V 22). I did not feel any difficulty in the quant section other than making some silly mistakes that can be avoided. Regarding verbal, I felt I did well in the exam (expected a 30) but I was shocked after seeing my verbal score.

I prepared for 12 weeks and took 2 gmat prep tests, where I scored 640 ( q 50 v 25) and 640 (q 48 v 27) respectively. I want to take my revenge on gmat by preparing for 8 full weeks from now. My first preparation included books such as

1. OG 12
2. Kaplan premier online 2010
3. Princeton Review 2010
4. Manhattan SC

I need help from you guys to improve my score by 100 points. I am aiming at 680 now and I am planning to start my preparation this time around with Powerscore CR bible, Manhattan 8 Strategy guides and maintaining an error log to monitor and track mistakes.

Please pour in some thoughts for my good. Thanks in advance.

Hi, sorry to hear that you didn't get what you expected. But that quants score is good!

Just a few questions. What was your strategy before? Did you tackle and analyse the parts you really needed to? Is SC your weekest and the other parts in Verbal okay? Do you understand why the correct answers are the correct answers.

If you already haven't you could brush up in basic grammar. Just get a standard grammar book, and read a lot.

Somebody can probably give you some better insight, but just some thoughts.
