Certain pesticides can become ineffective if used repeatedly in the same place; one reason is suggested by the finding that there are much larger populations of pesticide-degrading microbes in soils with a relatively long history of pesticide use than in soils that are free of such chemicals.

Can someone help me understand how to handle this kind of question? Also how in particular solve it?

Hi hemant,

IMO A.

A - Use of ; is justified, parallelism is fine, comparison spot on and so is the meaning. HANG ON!

B and C - misplaced modifier. Eliminate

D - The use of 'comma' after reason is incorrect. It would have been better had it been a '-'.

E - 'finding of' not idiomatic, and no continuity in the sentence after 'reason'. Hence eliminate.

And regarding how to answer such questions: Search for the subject and main verb of the sentence. Then the modifiers - are they used correctly, and so on. The best way, I would suggest, is attack the options directly. Look for the changes in options. That would lead to what you need to concentrate on, rather than checking for errors in such a large sentence.

Pls hit 'thank' button if you find my post useful
