The United States Navy announced that, beginning next year, they plan to close several of their bases in order to reduce operating expenses.

1)they plan to close several of their bases

2)they are planning to close several of their bases

3)it plans to close several of its bases

4)they plan several closures of their bases

5)it plans to close several of their bases

The United States Navy...........singular sub and therefore requres singular pronoun its only C does that

I was thinking that each pronoun should refer to only one antecedent. Whereas, at this sentence, "it" and "its" refer to same antecedent "United States Navy"

am i go wrong?

Each Pronoun should refer only to one antecedent unambiguously. However two pronouns can refer back to same noun as in the question above.

A pronoun should not be confused as to which noun it is referring to.
