Help on MR SC question-194

Hi, I am trying to work on the SC section in MR Verbal guide- question 194. I feel that the answer provided in the guide is wrong. Hence want a second view. Question below-

The sharp contast in sales memorabilia seen in sports in which most of the participants are male and such sales in sports in which most of the participants are female have demonstrated that women's sports are still lacking dedicated fans.[/u]

A) seen in sports in which most of the participants are male and such sales in sports in which most of the participants are female have
B) seen in sports in which most of the participants are male and such sales in sports in which most of the participants are female have (same as A for some reason)
C) that favors sports in which most of the participants are male over sports in which most of the participants are female have
D) that favors sports in which most of the participants are male over sports in which most of the participants are female has
E) seen is sports in which most of the participants are male and such sales in sports in which most of the participants are female has

Correct answer as per guide is (E).
Is the use of 'IS' in E just a typo. I don't think it fits correct. How should the correct answer look like?

Whats the Source of this Question - Anyways -

Answer should end with 'Have' , because its sales. So it cant be E.
Although all options doesnt seems correct to me , because of one or more reasons.

You are right. 'Has' needs to be used because 'sharp contrast' is singular.

I am not happy with the answer too. :(

even if IS is replaced with IN, I am not convinced.

Contrast and Favor convey the same idea and hence are redundant.

One can contrast or one can favor..................One can not contrast with favor.

Agreed... Will this happen in actual GMAT? During practise I selected D, as E has 'is'.
Will GMAT ask questions with tentative, almost-correct answers?

"contrast A with B" is the right usage. E,which is the correct answer, uses "contrast A and B". This is wrong isn't it?

Does anyone know the answer yet?

I found a version of the question where that looks like this. I think the answer is D because E is really wordy.

The sharp contrast in sales of sports memorabilia seen in sports in which
most of the participants are male and such sales in sports in which most of
the participants are female have demonstrated that women¹s sports are still
lacking dedicated fans.

A. seen in sports in which most of the participants are male and such sales
in sports in which most of the participants are female have

B. seen in sports in which most of the participants are predominately male
over those that are predominately female have

C. that favors sports in which most of the participants are male over sports
in which most of the participants are female

D. that favors sports in which most of the participants are male over sports
in which most of the participants are female has

E. seen in sports in which most of the participants are male and such sales
in sports in which most of the participants are female has

Well guys it is a tricky SC.

As the subject is "sharp contrast" A, B and C are out with "have" being the incorrect verb. The correct verb is "has"

That leaves us with D and E.

In D the usage of that incorreclty modifies sports memorabilia. It seems that the memorabilia is favoring the male sports which is incorrect.

Hence E remains. Hope this helps.

Dunno how many question of this type appear on the actual GMAT!

If the typo error is the sharp contrast, "over" will be eliminated. Only choice E is the correct answer
