It's (a) vs (c) for me and (a) stands out, out of the two.

(b) is wordy.
(d) & (e) are wordy and convey the same as the original sentence in a more passive voice.

A is the answer

(B) Because paper of all kinds is the biggest single component in municipal trash, many municipalities tried to recycle so that the cost of trash disposal is reduced. UNIDIOMATIC
(C) Because paper of all kinds are the biggest single components in municipal trash, many municipalities have tried to recycle to reduce the cost of trash disposal. SUBJECT-VERB DON'T AGREE
(D) All kinds of paper are the biggest single components of municipal trash, and so many municipalities have tried recycling to reduce the cost of trash disposal.
(E) All kinds of paper is the biggest single component of municipal trash, so many municipalities have tried to recycle so that the cost of trash disposal could be reduced. SUBJECT-VERB DON'T AGREE

In option E (although its wrong choice, just for sake of understanding), it says 'All kinds of paper' and the verb is 'is'. Since paper is singular, IMO subj and verb agree in number. Thoughts pls

can somebody please explain... which is correct??

"Because paper of all kinds is" vs "Because paper of all kinds are"

i spent 189 seconds and got this answer wrong.... I know there is something silly which I did not comprehend..

"Paper of all kinds is" is correct.

If you remove "of all kinds",you will see paper is singular.
