Asking for Info from college.. is it an advantage?

Hey Guys!!

I wanted to ask all of its an advantage if we talk to the college for more information before we apply?

I have no doubts to ask (thanks to u guys) and am almost ready to apply and haven't asked for info from the college. Should I?

If OA is A, IMO B
If OA is B, IMO C
If OA is C, IMO D
If OA is D, IMO E
If OA is E, IMO A

FML!! :/

Can you please make your question clearer? What kind of question do you want to ask?

Ideally, if that information can be fetched from their website or alumni or open forums, restrain fro masking. If it is about the university in general and career related takeaway that also shows your knowledge of the program, please go ahead.

A lot of Colleges have links where you can ask for info before u apply. They will send you a mail about different kinds of information.

Is it an advantage to let them know u r interested before applying?

Hi Vaibhav,

It is always good to ask questions and clear your doubts about the college. However please ensure you ask them information which isn't available online. You should ask them questions that do not make you sound that you haven't done your research and are asking questions that require expert opinion.

I have asked every doubt that i had from BTG members and former students of the University. One of the former student suggested that i should still send for info, cos he felt that it would be advantageous. is it?

Of course, it will be advantageous if you show your interest in the school before applying. A couple of things that come to mind:

1. If you are planning to visit, ask them if they arrange an official tour. Ask them the best time to arrange a class visit. Tell them which particular class excites you the most.
2. Based on your career goals, pick a professional club. If you have any info on the activities of that club, and you have new ideas on that club's events or formation of a new club, ask about that.
3. If there is a class or a course that is in line with your career goals, ask about more details on that.

Better is to talk about the overall program's offerings in general rather than picking on a subject.

Vaibhav,
I understand your point. Here's what I think.
Go through the program website, talk to some alumni and even some prospective applicants.
Meanwhile keep jotting down any doubts and issues that pop in your head; not to impress the ad com but genuine queries that you have.

If you think your doubts and issues genuinely cause you concern about the program, the university or the location even, then go ahead and shoot the same to the ad com. With over 20-40 years of experience in understanding people's motives goals and intentions, I believe the ad com can smell a person who is only trying to impress them from miles away!
