When it is 2:01 P.M. Sunday afternoon in Nullepart, it is Monday in
Eimissaan; when it is 1:00 P.M. Wednesday in Eimissaan, it is also
Wednesday in Nullepart. When it is noon Friday in Nullepart, what is the
possible range of times in Eimissaan?

Ans: 10 P.M. Friday to 1 A.M. Saturday

Source: MGMAT Strategy guide. I am not able to understand the given soluion.

Ok...lets do it this way...I am referring to Nullupart as " N " and Eimissaan as " E".

First statement says : If it is 1401 hrs Sunday in N, then it is Monday in E.

Now, from above statement we can deduce the following :

1) Minimum time difference between N and E will be when it is 0001 hrs Monday in E. This means that E will be 10 hrs ahead of N.

2) Maximum time difference between N and E will be when it is 2359 hrs Monday in E. This means that E will be abt 34 hrs ahead of N.

Second statement says : If is is 1300 hrs Wednesday in E then it is also Wednsesday in N.

1) Minimum time difference between N and E will be when it is 1259 hrs Wednesday in N. This means that E is 1 minute ahead of N. But from first statement you have already deduced that minimum time difference is 10 hrs. So we stick with minimum time difference as 10 hrs.

2) Maximum time difference between N and E will be when it is 0000 hrs Wednesday in N. This means that E is 13 hrs ahead of N. Stick with this figure.

Now if it is 1200 hrs Friday in N. Then minimum time is E is 10 hrs ahead. Therefore 10 pm Friday. Maximum time in E is 13 hrs ahead. Therefore 01 am Saturday.

Its a bit confusing to read. I hope I have put across the explanation properly.
