Hello Stacy,

I am scheduled to take the gmat Oct 8 and I was wondering if you could please answer a few of my questions.

1) I worked for two years at my aunts manufacturing company as an accountant/financial analyst (paid), 6 months at a fortune 500 as an intern (paid), 3 months for a large developer in southern california as an intern (paid), and several jobs (valet, dental assistant, and sales man at a local store) for a total of two and a half years all while attending high shool/undergrad. How would this translate into my years of work experience when answering that question on the application?

2) I recently graduated (may 2008) from a cal state with a 3.0 gpa. If I were to get a 650 on the GMAT, how would you assess my chances of getting into USC, Pepperdine, DuPaul, or NYU's mba programs?

3) Do school's generally accept more candidates for the part time program as compared to the full time and does one have to be currently employed in order to apply to the part time program?

4) I am interested in your consulting services but I want to take the gmat first before I pursue your services, do you currently have a long wait or would I be able to get immediate help?

Thanks for answering my questions

I should also mention I'm 22 (will be 23 in november) and I speak 4 languages (French, English, German, and Farsi) although I only speak the first two fluently.

I learned French and German because I like in France and Germany for a total of 7 years.

Dear SRH,

Here are my answers:

1) I worked for two years at my aunts manufacturing company as an accountant/financial analyst (paid), 6 months at a fortune 500 as an intern (paid), 3 months for a large developer in southern california as an intern (paid), and several jobs (valet, dental assistant, and sales man at a local store) for a total of two and a half years all while attending high shool/undergrad. How would this translate into my years of work experience when answering that question on the application?
All work experience is evaluated. However, only the time you work in a professional, full-time capacity after receiving your bachelor's degree is counted in the "years of work experience" measure. If all of your experience has been while you are in school, then you would report "0 years".

2) I recently graduated (may 2008) from a cal state with a 3.0 gpa. If I were to get a 650 on the GMAT, how would you assess my chances of getting into USC, Pepperdine, DuPaul, or NYU's mba programs?
Because your GPA is below the average for most of these programs, your GMAT score needs to be at or above the schools' average. I think a 650 would still put you in range for Pepperdine and DePaul, but you would need something over 700 to be in the best position for USC and NYU.

3) Do school's generally accept more candidates for the part time program as compared to the full time and does one have to be currently employed in order to apply to the part time program?
It is expected any students in the part-time program are working concurrently as it is a program designed for working professionals. The size of a part-time program versus a full-time program varies from school to school. It is also a common misconception that part-time programs have lower standards or are less competitive for admissions. While that might be the case for some schools, it is not the reality for top MBA programs.

4) I am interested in your consulting services but I want to take the gmat first before I pursue your services, do you currently have a long wait or would I be able to get immediate help?
I would suggest contacting a consulting firm as soon as possible. All firms have finite capacity and new folks are contracting every day.

Good luck,
Lisa
