Hey BM,
very nice profile. I do not think you have a slim chance. But that is my personal opinion. You did take a look at my profile right? I might provide comic relief to the adcom when they go through my application. But hey I made those choices and I have to live with them. Vicki Mach is great. I cannot tell you the number of time I had questions and she had prompt answers and if she did not she made it a point to find out and let me know. Contrary to what I have read on posts here the people at MIT are really willing to help. Take time to answer your questions and were very cordial. I would not loose hope or think your chances are slim, go ahead and give it a shot ..I mean if you do not get in you could find out why you did not and see what needs to be done. That is what I plan to do. Who knows I may very well apply again next year. Remember you miss 100% of the shots you dont take...!!! That was the great Mr Wayne Gretsky.

scvck,

thanks for the encouragement dude... but i decided to concentrate on the gmat first and then think of applications. It's way too late for me to start on the LFM app now anyway... so i'll just wait and probably try next year...

i'm really interested to see how you get on with your application. do keep us posted with any updates from your side... and all the very best for you.

So been a while since I have posted. So I am down to my last essay and one day before I submit my application. It is due by Monday morning but I hope to have it done by Sunday night. It has been quite a trip this application process. I have tried hard not to get emotionally attached but I would be lying if there is not a small part of me that does not want to get in. But my chances are slim to none so I am going to have to get over it. It seems they send out interview requests between first and third week of january. And they interview everybody who gets in so I am thinking if I dont get a call by the third week of january that would put an end to my admission hopes. Well I have found a lot about myself through this admission process. I thought writing essays would be a breeze but to make up for my poor academic performance I put in a lot more effort. A few of my essays were personal experiences and some of them work related. Tried to explain to the best of my ability who I am what drives me...etc etc. Well if I do hear anything back from MIT I will let people know. If you do not hear from me expect the worse has happened. And good luck to everyone else applying. Hope you get in.

Wow,
You certainly have a sound background academically and looks like professionally as well. There is no question you will be able to handle the academic rigours of the program. But this is where I may see a slight problem. On their application they specify if you have one masters you might have to explain why you need another... Given this fact may I ask why you wish to pursue another Masters? Keep in mind they are awry of the fact that some people by pass the system thinking the LFM program is an easy way to get an MBA from Sloan. Besides that you have a great shot at the LFM program. If you can put your carrer vision, goals etc on paper and explain to adcom why you need another Masters I would think you have a good shot.Since this years deadline has passed I would intiate contact with LFM and speak to them about your situation and see what they have to say.

Remember I am just an applicant I have no knowledge of the workings of the university and what they are looking for. Take my advice for what it is worth.

Good Luck!

Hey sckvck, glad to find another LFM hopeful! I'm glad the application is done and submitted, but the wait is a killer isn't it?!

I think we met at the LFM information day, I was the one from UPS you referred to in an earlier post. Great posts on your application progress and thoughts. You'll have to volunteer for one of the LFM student blogs once we get in.

BTW, there is a following of LFM hopefuls over at the BW forums posting their stats and sharing in the pre-decision anxiety. If you're not already in there, I'd check it out.

Best of luck!

Hey opsmbaseeker,
Of course I remember meeting you. I was the crazy Indian dude with a ton of questions. I remember Jeremy asking me to take a break and stop with all the questions on our way to the Manufacturing class! Well I am glad to hear from you how was your essay process? My essays went ok but don’t think my cover letter was the best. Unfortunately I did not show Sloan enough love. But I am hoping to learn from this process and apply next year as the LFM program is the only program I applied to this year and plan to apply next year as well. How is your fiancé doing and how is life in general …looked up your profile on business week very impressive good luck with the interview and keep in touch!

LFM or bust

by opsmbaseeker » Mon Jan 05, 2009 9:09 am
It was indeed a great day on campus, I'd recommend it to anyone [who's reading] that is looking into the program. I learned a lot about the program, and the interaction with the students and faculty was certainly the best take away.

The essays were definitely fun! I recall in grade school that a 500 word essay seemed about 15 pages long, but with those essays it was more like a brief paragraph. It's very difficult to get in everything you want to say. I would agree with you that the cover letter was the most challenging component. To fit in the accomplishments, impact, fit to Sloan/LFM and future career goals all in one concise statement takes a lot of effort. You really need to know what you want out of the program.

Similar to you I only applied to LFM this year. I looked at a number of other schools and did about 3-4 campus visits, but the only program I could find that was a good enough fit to take me away from a solid career was LFM. If I don't get in this year there will always be next year. The introspection and learning process was well worth it.

It sounds like we have a few more weeks to wait for a potential interview. Aside from the application process, life is good. Of course I don't quite know what to do with my nights and weekends now that I'm not [re-]writing essays :).

For my own sanity I'm going to try and stay away from the forums for a week or so, but I'll check back in as the interview feedback dates approach.
