I understand that when comparing two things (especially verbs), 'rather' is better (A rather than B)wherein A and B are to be parallel, but in the question attached above, "Age of the mother" is not an abnormality. Hence I marked the other one.

Can anyone help.

Oops .. infact, after posting this one, i figured out that both see "how old the mother is" as an abnormality.

believe that abnormality A rather than (abnormality B) her age ...
believe that abnormality A other than B (her age).
