The music is used to reflect the change in direction...
and option E summarizes that..
Other Option are either too strong or unsupported by information given in the stimulus..

the statement that many comic scenes in ...however.........changing scenery is given as a counter argument . the actual argument is in the first line i.e opera's stage direction is never reflected in music. to counter it the only claim that can be made by the given statment is that (variety of) opera's stage direction is reflected in the music . Only D is claiming this .
By POE a,b and e can be easily eliminated .
b/n c and d C is an reverse ans (refer power score CR rule for reverse ans)

I feel option D restates the conclusion made by the arguement that tries to opposes the claim made by some critics..
