How many 5 digit numbers can you make out of 01234, where the first number is NOT zero?
I figured out the number of total 5 digit permutations you could have: 5! (720), then subtracted out the number of 5-digit numbers that could have Zero as the first number. That calculation should be 4! (0 is the first number, the last 4 digits can be permuted in 4*3*2*1 ways).
So my answer to the questions is 720 - 24 =696. The answer key says it should be 96. Why doesn't my reasoning work?
