The first woman elected to Congress in the United States, many people regard Jeanette Rankin to be a
role model because of her committing to peace
, as shown by her legislative votes against joining both
World Wars.
a) many people regard Jeanette Rankin to be a role model because of her committing to peace
b) many people view Jeanette Rankin to be a role model because of her commitment to peace
c) Jeanette Rankin is considered as a role model by many people because of her commitment to peace
d) many people see Jeanette Rankin as a role model because of her commitment to peace
e) Jeanette Rankin is regarded by many people as a role model because of her commitment to peace

The answer is (E), but why not (C).....correct idiom is "regarded as"

Hi Anja

First, " considered as " is idiomatically incorrect => Eliminate C
" Regarded as" for example: you are regarded as the best singer.
" Regarded by" for example : you are regarded by AMW as the best singer
Both are correct!

Regard,

Indeed the correct idiomatic usage is regarded as ( No Doubt about it ) , but consider the structure of the sentence-

After the red highlighted part , a Noun must follow...

Hence we can reject options (A) , (B) and (D)

So we have 2 choices left (C ) and (E)

(C) Jeanette Rankin is considered as a role model by many people because of her commitment to peace

Considered as is Unidiomatic , the correct usage is - consider + person/thing ( or consider X Y without to be)

Because of - This is not correct usage in GMAT Land

So left with only (E) which satisfies all the conditions hence IMO (E)..[/u]
